Image-Based Numerical Modelling of Blood Flow and Heart Defects
Little is known on how forces resulting from fluid flow interact with structural stability of carotid atherosclerotic plaque and how such interactions may impact on stroke prevention.
Using a combination of 3D image analysis of Carotid plaques, combined with numerical modelling, it is possible to resolve the shear forces acting on vascular obstructions and map out the fluid flow pathways for comparison with clinical (data) imaging.
Professor Nick Petford will describe the techniques used to solve the problem and discuss the clinical implications.
